PLANNING FOR RETRENCHMENTS
WORKSHOP
Unfortunately, in today's
economic climate, retrenchments are becoming a reality. If you are preparing
for retrenchments, attend this one day workshop and make sure that you follow
the correct procedures to avoid ending up in court.
Whether you are retrenching one
employee or many, you need to ensure that you are familiar with the provisions
of the Labour Relations Act as well as the Code of Good Practice on Operational
Requirements.
Equally it is important to
ensure that you have an effective workplace communications strategy to address
employee morale.
Defending a poorly managed retrenchment process in court
will cost you time and money. You may even end up worse-off despite the savings
you achieved by reducing staff.
The following will be discussed during this workshop:
1. Section 189 and 189A provisions
2. Notification
requirements
3. The consultation
process
4. Disclosure of
information
5. Recent case law on
retrenchments
6. Documentation &
consultation templates
7. Trade Union
consultations
8. The pros and cons of
CCMA Facilitation
9. Ways to avoid
retrenchments
10. Assisting employees
faced with retrenchment
